Apple Springs student arrested after gunning vehicle at rival

An Apple Springs teenager was injured Thursday while standing in front of the town's high school after a teen whom he is apparently at odds with over a girl allegedly lost control of a vehicle and hit him. Witnesses said Francis Neal Spence, 17, made a U-turn on FM 2501, after seeing Billy Carl Avery, 18, standing in the Apple Springs High School parking lot. After turning around, Spence allegedly gained a high rate of speed before he lost control of his car, wrecking into Avery who was standing in front of his parked pickup, said a Trinity County Sheriff's Office spokesman. "They didn't see him get hit, but they saw him jump out of the way. He may have got just a glancing blow with the vehicle," said deputy Mark Moscinski of the Trinity County Sheriff's Office.
